GIA India

All courses and programs are taught in English.

Studying at GIA India

GIA India is ideally located in Nariman Point, the heart of Mumbai’s financial district – and just minutes away from the city’s diamond district. With intense activity going on throughout the year, this city attracts business from different regions of the country and has become a center of gemological education.

Today, India’s diamond and jewelry manufacturing industry, concentrated in Gujarat and Mumbai, is by far the world’s largest, with an estimated one million workers and 3,000 companies that polish an astounding 92% (by volume) of all diamonds sold in world markets today.  Jaipur, in Rajasthan, is a growing colored stone center.  What’s more, India is now the third largest retail diamond market behind the U.S. and Japan.  And as the industry grows – so does the need and demand for trained jewelry professionals.  At GIA, you learn the jewelry and diamond knowledge you need to work in this exciting and expanding industry.

Network with your peers – and potential employers.

Students enrolled in GIA India’s prestigious classes and programs are given firsthand exposure to the passion and commerce of the jewelry industry. Former Graduate Gemologist students have visited the diamond cutting unit of Inter Gold in Seepz, Mumbai, and toured the colored stone market in Jaipur. While studying at GIA India, students have the opportunity to interact with important industry leaders in Mumbai. They also get a chance to network with a wide range of potential employers, and have the advantage of visiting India International Jewelry Show held annually in Mumbai.

About Mumbai

Mumbai is arguably the most vibrant and happening city in South Asia. It is very cosmopolitan, with many diverse cultures and languages spoken.   And as one of the most affluent and industrialized cities, Mumbai is the commercial capital of India. It is also recognized as the hub of the gem and jewelry industry in the country.  Out of a total of 84 – odd sightholders of DTC throughout the world, 32 have their headquarters in Mumbai.  What’s more, Mumbai has a large Export Promotion Zone for jewelry manufacturers.
