Institute Honors Friends of GIA at Industry Awards Presentation
Volume 14, Issue 2 - Spring 2005

GIA President William E. Boyajian and representatives from Institute Development recognized members of the GIA Alumni Association and in-kind gift donors for their contributions in 2004 during the Industry Awards Presentation in Tucson.

Brook Ellis, vice president of Education, took the opportunity to announce Robert S. Lindsay and Richard “Dan” Waltman as this year’s recipients of the Richard T. Liddicoat scholarships. Each received a full scholarship for the Graduate Gemologist program – Lindsay for the On Campus program and Waltman for Distance Education.

“I sincerely congratulate you both for being chosen for this award named after our former chairman of the board,” Ellis said at the event. “My advice to you is to study hard.”

Boyajian and Patricia Syvrud, director of In-Kind Gifts, presented 13 donors each with a plaque in honor of their non-cash contributions during the ceremony held in conjunction with the Alumni Dance Party. Many of their gifts, such as fine quality gemstones, jewelry and photographs, will be put on display at GIA or used in educational programs.

Several chapters and Association members received awards in four different categories: Outstanding Chapter of the Year, Chapters of the Year; Outstanding Chapter Members of the Year and Volunteers of the Year.

“This is the time of year when we get to honor those who have tirelessly worked to make their Alumni Association a successful organization,” said Rose McKenna, Alumni Relations manager. “We’re very proud to highlight this year’s special group.”
